Compute Against Cancer is a program of Parabon Computation, Inc., a for-profit corporation that recycles unused computer power for use by cancer research organizations and commercial companies. When you participate in Compute Against Cancer, you donate use of your computer to nonprofit researchers, and you donate the compensation you would receive for running tasks for paying clients to the nonprofit cancer organization you designate.

Cancer patients benefit two ways: first, you directly support cancer research conducted by organizations such as National Cancer Institute and National Human Genome Research Institute; second, the money you earn by running tasks for paying clients goes directly to a nonprofit cancer group of your choice.

For security reasons, while a task is running, you will not be able to tell whether it is for a paying client or a nonprofit researcher. But your account is updated regularly to indicate how much work your computer has done for nonprofit research and how much money you have earned and donated to your charity.
